A good performance from a band only comes off
as good as the time expended in preparation and setup before the actual
show.
Starting with the load in of equipment out of the
truck, to strategic placement of PA and monitor speakers, stage amps,
light placement and angle direction to the packing up of everything and
loading it back into the truck.
The sound engineer must first EQ (equalize) the
room acoustics to remove any unwanted sound anomalies. The same must
be done for stage and monitors. The tone settings and levels of each
vocal, instruments (guitar, bass, piano, strings, organ, bari-sax, tenor
sax, clarinet and all drums ) must be set.
A blend of all the above must be methodically
coordinated into the "sound" of the band. This must then be placed
in "sync" with the lighting production of each song. All these
things constitute a show coming off properly.
This gives you a basic idea of what must be done
for "each show", not taking into account the hundreds of miscellaneous
problems that can arise from bad electrical, intermittent cords, weak
batteries, faulty processing equipment and amplifiers.
The writing of the song lists for each person,
recognition to sponsors and pertinent information for particular events
are some of the many things to be dealt with.
Sam Alonge (manager of the Mudflaps) would like to
thank all those who expend their time and energies into the production of
a Mudflap show. Without the above people all this would not be
possible.
